Demolition - Combat

Demolition Racing involves either straightforward demolition competition inside a bowl arena or competing in races with points awarded for wrecking an opponent's car. While racing is usually an important part of these titles, it usually takes a back seat to the collisions and ramming between vehicles. Note: realistic car damage by hitting the guardrails or barriers forming a track does not mean the title falls under Demolition Racing. The demolition is the main focus of such titles.nnNot to be confused with Go-Kart Racing, Combat Racing titles feature weapons or allow hand-to-hand combat to influence the outcome of a race. The intent is to completely annihilate your competition or cause so much damage to others that you can take first place without worry. As a general rule, whenever the vehicle used to race starts with weapons (meaning the weapons are a standard part of the vehicle before running over possible power-ups), the title should fall under this category even if it could fit in another racing style. (Example: RoadBlasters could be considered a futuristic racing game, but the fact that shooting is an integral part of the racing means the game should fall under "Combat Racing.")

Action Fighter

This is a top down vertically scrolling shooter, in which you start off as a motorbike. You are quite vulnerable to attack at first, but power ups come in the form of a Sega van which you have to dock with. The first time you dock you get double fire, the second time gives you a rocket, the third gives a rear force field and the fourth invulnerablility. There are also letters A-F which you can collect. Collecting A through to D allows you change into a sportscar which is less vunerable to attack, but not as nimble. Collect all of them and you are automatically transformed into a sportscar. Picking up flags gives you bonus points with 10,000 points gaining you an extra life. Eventually as you get further into the level you will transform into a high tech plane.

Carmageddon

Motorized carnage. Ever wanted to hit pedestrians during a race? Now's your chance. At the beginning you have only one car. In the race itself you try damaging your enemies by driving into them; you can also kill pedestrians. Depending on how much damage you cause, your money counter rises. With that money you can upgrade your car. If you wreck a certain car in 4 races or so, you get to drive it.

Carmageddon 2 - Carpocalypse Now

Carmageddon II is essentially more of the same. Whether this is a good or bad thing pretty much depends on how you liked the first. In case you need to be told, this game sends the politically-correct-o-meter flying towards absolute zero, perhaps only beaten by Duke Nukem 3D. The framework is a futuristic race inspired by Deathrace 2000 and The Cars That Ate Paris: The contestants, in sport cars, monster trucks, and other motorized abominations, are placed on a track, a real populated area. Getting to the finish line first is secondary, and in fact seldom happens; the real winner is the one to trash everyone else, running over pedestrians on the way for extra profit.
