Battle Isle

Admiral: Sea Battles is a naval warfare turn-based strategy game but with the emphasis on action rather than accuracy. Instead of using rules to model real warfare conditions, or simulate historically accurate battles, Admiral uses a simple rule system and among the 11 types of ships you can command you can have both galleons and steam frigates at the same time for example! The game is composed of 3 campaigns with 6 battles each. Each battle has specific objectives involving naval battles, invasions, strategic placement of forts and ports, etc. You view the game from a top-down squared tactical-map perspective from where you issue orders to your fleet. Among the added features is the ability to board and capture ships, build forts and ports (to repair ships) and both single player and hot-seat multiplayer modes.

Based on the boardgame with same name this game places you as a nation in the Mediterranean to rise and become the supreme ruler. Spanning about 8000 years, it covers the development of ancient civilizations from the start of agriculture to the emergence of Rome as the domimant power. Although military strategies are possible it's far from any wargame as the main goal is to gain an overall advancement involving cultural, economic, political and religious powers. The battles which emerge are normally the result of shortage of land rather than attempts to eliminate other nations. The player who effectively balances each aspect of the game will build the strongest civilization and win the game.

In this Post-apocalyptic war setting, you must guide your forces through hordes of well-armed enemies using many different weapons of mass destruction. But be warned, this little gem ain't a push over, with highly intellegent AI pushing your team to the brink. Also included in the package is the Wargame Developers Kit, where you can create your own scenario's.
