After Dark Games
After Dark Games
A collection of eleven coffee-break games, After Dark Games will provide you with hours of addictive fun. From a classic game of Solitaire or MooShu (MahJongg) or Foggy Boxes (Dots), to the more obscure Hula Girl or Fisch Stick or Toaster Run, almost any genre craving can be whetted by loading up this Sierra On-Line/Berkeley game. Hula Girl: A timed game of sorts (the screen moves upward and you can't leave the visible area), Hula Girl features none other than a girl with a hula hoop. Grab the cola, cupcakes, ice cream, and hula-hoops while avoiding spiders, broccoli, frogs, and mean sisters. Each platform you land on grabs you one point, but watch your yukk-o-meter! Fish Shtick: Unscramble the letters before the clock reaches 0! Collect as many points as you can and get a high score! One point for four-letter words, two for 5-letter words, three for 6-letter words, etc. Roof Rats: Get everyone off the roof and leave yourself with as few rooms remaining as possible. Eliminate rooms by putting two-or-more of the same colour together and double-clicking. Each person has their own number of floors that they can jump off of. The grannie has to be on ground level, the rat can jump off of 1 floor, the dog - 2 floors, the pogo-boy - 3 floors, the boxing kangaroo - 4 floors, the buff man - 5 floors. Solitaire: No twists here, just a simple game of Klondike. Roger Dodger: You control a glowing orb that needs to collect power-ups (green) and then make its way to the pulsing green gateway. Avoid red things; they'll kill you! Zapper: Standard trivia; yes-or-no questions. Every time you get three-in-a-row correct and your time will increase, as well as the jackpot (third) point level. Mowin' Maniac: Can you say Pac-Man? That's all this game is. Bad Dog 911: Using six letters, create as many words as you can before time runs out! Every real word will move the scaffolding closer to you, but the clock is ticking! When it's half-past and you haven't gotten the scaffolding yet, you die! Toaster Run: Ah, the little toaster that was the first in a series of infamous screen savers. Now the little toaster is on a mission to gather all the toys and put the child in bed. Hitting an object causes the toaster to lose power; bread increases it. Watch out for the TV! The static really hurts! Foggy Boxes: Dots in disguise. Unfortunately, you can only play against the computer. MooShu: The classic game of MahJongg, carried all the way from China! Select two tiles of matching design that are free on either the left or right and they disappear! Win by removing all the tiles.
Age Of Wonders
Age Of Wonders
TURN-BASED, HEROIC-FANTASY STRATEGY-GAME. It looks and feels like a more polished and sophisticated version of Warlords 3, with a few touches of Master of Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (HMM3). Up to 12 fantasy-races can be put into play in a campaign or stand-alone scenario, from the Elves to the Undead. There is an extensive diplomatic matrix which structures the relationships between those races and their respective leaders (not found in HMM3). There are visually superb global-spells which can be cast on the strategic map, outside of tactical combat, punctuated by weird sound-effects (more extensive than HMM3). Creatures can move around without being led by a hero, so the map eventually crawls with all sorts of strange beings (not found in HMM3). Neutral forces are not always static, as in HMM3: most of them move around and sometimes attack the 12 races. The last two types of factors make this game much more complex and dynamic than HMM3. On the other hand, the interior design and appearance of the castles are much more simplistic and ugly than those found in HMM3. And also, the full tactical-combat display is much less beautiful, especially during the siege of a city. As a compensation, the automatic tactical-combat mode shows a somewhat detailed overview of the combat simulation: it is a worthwhile substitute for impatient gamers, especially in multiplayer encounters. Multiplayer modes available are: Internet (TCP/IP), Internet (via Heat.net), LAN (IPX), play by e-mail, hot-seat (2 to 12 humans on the same machine). Pre-game customization allows the following choices: 5 levels of AI skill (with the 1.2 patch), 5 AI personalities (from very violent to defensive), classic turn-based moves or simultaneous turns, incarnation of the player as the main hero (if he dies, it's game over for that side), selection of the main hero's name, face, and bonus sword-and-sorcery attributes, etc. There are much less maps included than in HMM3, but a great map editor allows the gamer to create new maps, which can have up to 3 geological levels (one or two can be placed undergound, with a much more realistically cramped and dark tunnel-design). As in HMM3 and Master of Magic, heroes are very important. They reach new levels of skill and power with experience and can be equipped with artifacts. But they do have limitations that usually do not allow a solitary hero to overrun a city-garrison all by himself.
Akuma - Demon Spawn
Akuma - Demon Spawn
The story takes place in a time when demons are terrorizing the world. Three warriors come together and form a Blood Trinity, vowing to fight demons until the world is safe again. One warrior, Elim, is a noble Korean swordsman. The second, Kusa, is a Japanese sorcerer. The third is a woman, Raening, a martial arts expert skilled in archery. Elim becomes engaged to Shining a beautiful girl who he has to rescue when she is captured by demons. He cannot live with her until the world is free of demons. Kusa carries a box on his back containing the bones and restless spirit of his father. He is sworn to avenge his death and find a way to let his father rest in peace. Raening has to prove that a woman and a princess can be as good a warrior as any man. The warriors travel from village to village helping those beleaguered by demons and fulfilling tasks to help the villagers. As a result of their labors they accumulate money, weapons, and powerful spells. They will need all their skill and experience as they learn the story of the Blood Sword and vow to find it and use it to kill Satan. Sometimes the people you meet and the relationships you forge with them are what will stand you in good stead in the future. Be careful who you are rude to or discard as uninteresting. Appearances can be deceptive and not everyone who offers to help you can be trusted. Again, it is up to you to judge. In the underworld you must come to understand the politics of who is fighting against who and decide which side to join. There are the ex-lieutenants of Satan struggling for independence from Satan while fighting each other, there are the half-breeds part demon part human, and there are the humans some of whom have thrown their lot in with the devils. It is your task to decide who has the knowledge you seek about the Blood Sword, its powers, and its whereabouts.
